Audition Information for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
Good Grief! Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and all of the gang come to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza for the first time as Cabrillo Music Theatre announces auditions for all roles for its production of YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN. This 45th Anniversary Production of “a day in the life of Charlie Brown,” is a delight for children and “former children” alike. Cabrillo Music Theatre’s production will feature brand-new songs and material from the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival, plus classic songs such as HAPPINESS, SUPPERTIME, THE BASEBALL GAME and the title tune.
YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN will play February 8th through the 17th, 2013, in the Kavli Theatre at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN will be directed by Cabrillo’s Artistic Director, Lewis Wilkenfeld. Kirsten Chandler will choreograph, while Dean Mora will musical direct and lead the Cabrillo Music Theatre Orchestra.
YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN begins rehearsal for non-AEA January 19th, and for AEA on January 21st, 2013.

All roles are open, and all roles are open to Non-Equity talent. Please note that there is no “ensemble” for YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN. Note: DIVERSITY IS ENCOURAGED. ALL ETHNIC TYPES WELCOME.
3 Equity contracts are available, to be cast from among the six roles. The understudy roles are for non-AEA only. There is pay for all roles.
Please bring picture and resume. Bring sheet music in the proper key, accompanist provided. Musical theatre music; no pop. No recorded music or a capella, please. Non-union please limit song to one minute.

In conjunction with CHARLIE BROWN auditions, Cabrillo Music Theatre will hold auditions for The Kabrillo Kids. The Kabrillo Kids, a youth performance group, performs short musical productions for “Beyond the Footlights” outreach and promotional events. Past presentations have entertained at local senior centers, community performance events, and holiday entertainment for the troops at the local naval base. In addition, The Kabrillo Kids are often young ambassadors of Cabrillo Music Theatre at community events. Performers in The Kabrillo Kids are offered performance opportunities throughout the year, based on their availability. Children must be between ages 8 and 14. There is no pay for The Kabrillo Kids, and no fees required. Participation in The Kabrillo Kids does not guarantee casting or special consideration for mainstage Cabrillo shows.
Like all of Cabrillo’s endeavors, The Kabrillo Kids is considered community service for Cabrillo Music Theatre, a non-profit organization.
Auditions for The Kabrillo Kids will take place at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts during the following dates/times:

Auditions will take approximately 90 minutes, and kids will be taught new material for singing, movement, and acting. No prepared material necessary. Picture and resume are helpful, but not required. Audition will be conducted by Ginny Grady and Lewis Wilkenfeld.

Role Descriptions: YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN
NOTE: All roles to be cast within the age range late teens-early 30s, small to medium height (5’9” and under). Roles are to be played as children; actors should bring a childlike (not childish) essence to the roles, which are to be played with honesty and simplicity. Vocal style is Broadway legit. All roles must have strong harmony skills. DIVERSITY IS ENCOURAGED. ALL ETHNIC TYPES WELCOME.
CHARLIE BROWN – an “everyboy,” a failure-face child filled with insecurities and wisdom. Often discouraged, but never without hope. Must sing (Baritone, A up to high F) and move well.
LUCY VAN PELT – a fussbudget; bossy, self-consumed, quick-tempered. Filled with insight, none of it true. A very concrete thinker. Must sing (Alto, G up to F#) and move well.
LINUS VAN PELT – Lucy’s younger brother. A youthful philosopher and deep thinker, whose best friend is his blanket. At once confident and insecure. Must sing (Baritone, A up to F#) and move very well.
SALLY BROWN – Charlie Brown’s younger sister. Proudly superficial, easily distracted. Must sing (Soprano with strong belt, A up to Bb) and move well.
SCHROEDER – Sensitive musician and Beethoven fan, the tortured artist. Must sing (tenor, A up to Ab, also requires a jazz/pop sensibility) and move well.
SNOOPY – Charlie Brown’s loyal dog. Full of joy and imagination, as well as melancholy and despair. The most human of the Peanuts gang. Must sing (Tenor, A up to D) and move very well.
